Transgender Day of Remembrance Call for Work

Friday, November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance, an international day to memorialize and reflect on the human loss that results from anti-trans hate and fear of people who do not conform rigidly to the binary gender system. Cayden Mak is curating an event at the Department of Media Study’s Open Graduate Studio (CFA 286) to create space and time for observance and activism. The event will take place on that Friday from 1 until 4 pm.

Creative and/or critical works regarding the issue of oppression and silencing due to gender identity and expression will be considered for the show. There will be space for installation work as well as time for screening, performance or reading. The event will culminate in a social justice workshop.

Painting Phase One: Done

We put two coats of basic white on the biggest wall in the room on Sunday night. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll be amazed at how much bigger and brighter the room looks already! If you still want to help out, there’s more work to be done after the opening, including choosing a color and putting base coats on the other walls that are to be painted.

In the meantime, don’t forget to join us Thursday night at 8 for the studio opening. It’ll be a potluck, so bring a dish with you to pass! Wine, installation work, performances and screenings will be provided!

Graduate Studio Opening Pushed Back

We’re pushing back the graduate studio opening to October 22. By pushing it back, we hope to get more publicity out, better organization for the actual presentations, and give ourselves more time to get the space ready. Tomorrow evening, during the original opening time slot, we will have a general meeting about these preparations. Please show up if you’re interested in doing things at/for/with the opening!
